New York faces an impending crisis in dental care for patients with behavioral and developmental disabilities. The growing number of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia is creating greater demands on those now treating patients with behavioral and developmental disabilities. Will there be qualified professionals to provide this care in the coming years? The summit will look at the impact of changing reimbursement models and the readiness of tomorrow’s professionals to meet the growing demand.
The New York State Dental Foundation and New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) will host Impending Oral Health Crisis: Ensuring Quality Dental Care and Access for New York’s Most Vulnerable Patients, on May 14-15, 2015. This summit will bring together dental professionals and key policy makers to develop strategies to meet the oral health care demands of patient populations with special treatment needs.
Presenters for this event include keynote speaker Dr. Robert Lewando, executive dental director, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts; as well as other distinguished experts from the dental schools at Stony Brook, New York University, and the University of Illinois, North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System, Interfaith Medical Center, the NYS Alzheimer’s Association, and the NYS OPWDD Task Force on Special Needs Dentistry.
