| New York State Dental Foundation Releases Report Regarding Data Collected from the 2008 Dentist Survey on the Issuance of Volunteer Licenses Amidst the current concerns regarding dental care among rural areas and under- served populations, the New York State Dental Foundation sought to collect data regarding the response New York State dentists would have to the issuance of volunteer licenses. The survey was conducted in March 2008 by sending out 2,900 print surveys to a sampling of dentists who were forty-nine years of age or older. The survey was responded to by 761 dentists, therefore nearly one-third of the recipients responded to the questionnaire. Overall the survey found that 96% of respondents were in favor of the Board of Dentistry being able to issue volunteer licenses to retired dentists so that they would be able to treat under-served populations. The New York State Dental Foundation has prepared this report to share with you the findings of the survey. The report is also intended to demonstrate the willingness of New York’s dentist to reach out and be a part of a solution to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to quality oral health care.
